In 2010 the Supreme Court of The United States reached a landmark decision that profoundly affected the way American office-seekers could conduct their political campaigns. Simply put, the Supreme Court green-lighted the activities of so-called Super PAC’s, effectively allowing them to legally raise and spend unlimited amounts of money. After the 2010 Congressional elections, when Republican Party candidates scored impressive victories against their Democratic rivals, the GOP developed a devious political strategy to win back the White House in 2012. This strategy was pretty well summed up by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell when he stated that Republicans would abandon all attempts to serve the American people and instead, concentrate on whatever political ploys were necessary to defeat Barack Obama in the next election. Republican Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, after less than one year in office, has managed to bring disgrace upon himself and his State by refusing to act in a bipartisan manner while serving on the so-called “Super Committee”.
