High Unemployment Is Here To Stay

The U.S. economy is on a treadmill these days, and it doesn’t look like things are going to get much better any time soon.   The latest numbers on U.S. manufacturing activity, plus the weekly employment figures only confirm that the economy is still in the doldrums.  Both of these indices showed almost no change from prior periods, and give a clear signal that America is headed into an extended period of  extremely slow growth; perhaps 1% or less.  Without a healthy growth rate in the 5% to 6% range, the economy …
