Best of luck, Cher! I will be lounging on a lake with no access to a computer, but I will be thinking of you. :) Do you plan to rebroadcast? I'd love to hear it later when I'm home.

bluz,
You're right. It may already be too late to stop the "economic shock" that the Republican's have waiting for us all next January. In the new "modern era" of American politics, it will require a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, combined with a simple majority in the House, combined with the Presidency to get anything done. I don't see this happening any time soon. It is becoming more and more difficult to maintain an optimistic attitude about our country's future!

Judie, you are a wise mother indeed. How very sad that your mom threw away your poetry binder. Thoughts from you in poetic form would be amazing to read. Moms are not perfect, for sure and we cannot choose them. All I can say is that you turned out to be on heck of a good woman, either because of the way your mom was or in spite of it.

Many hugs to you~~~

On Mother's Day, there was always a battle between my siblings to see who could give the BEST gift. I'll never understand just why that was, because when raising my own children,I tried to NOT do it the way my mother did. I always gave her what I felt like giving, and not some expensive art object that would sit around and collect dust. She rarely complained (that would be tacky!) but my siblings definitely noticed that I didn't break the bank for a gift the way they did. It made me rather unpopular in the family. I had very little money back then, and often simply MADE gifts. When my mother sold her home to live with my youngest brother, I got those gifts back. She took the expensive gifts with her, to be inherited by my little brother, her favorite child. She always told us that whatever she gave us would be returned to us when the time came. So when she took all those expensive things with her, I was the only one who reminded my sister of that promise, when she tried to pack a piece of porcelain that I had given my mother one year. It was a casserole dish that had never even held food. Mother used it to keep postage stamps in. Since she never wrote anyone, and didn't need those stamps, I took it back. It wasn't the first time that a gift had come back to me. One year I gave her a best seller, written by a southern author. She took one look at it, turned a few pages, and said, "Here! You keep it! I don't want to read it."

There is one thing I made that I never got back. It was a binder of my poetry, written when I was a young woman. The mother of a friend from Holland had wanted to take it and have it published in Holland, but those poems were too personal, and I said no. When I asked my sister about that binder, her response was, "Oh, mother threw that away years ago." I should have kept a copy for myself.

I don't expect my children to give me a gift on Mother's Day. A simple phone call is enough, if they are not too busy with their own families. And if they ARE too busy, that's o.k. with me, because I have had my time with them, and now their children deserve as much time and attention as they can give them.

Mum,

It is only because you "stand by us" that we are able to be the remarkable people you proclaim us to to be. Your love, your support and your guidance... after all, you've been where we now tread.

Growing up, when my parents and I would disagree, I would consistantly argue, "I'm just waiting for my real mother to come and get me."

Thanks for coming to get me!

Love,
Tiff

Bagger,
Hmmmm, good point! The nasty gridlock in Congress and the economic problems in America are all Eve's fault. Santorum, McConnell, Boehner and Ryan would rather keep those "pesky females" barefoot and pregnant.

Janene,
Apparently, we can't "just get along". When the avowed objective of the leader of the Republican Party (McConnell)is to unseat the President of the United States, rather than to serve the interests of the people who elected him, then the political system in this country is irretrievably broken. The seeds of social unrest are being planted every day by politicians who cannot see the implications of their actions.

So sorry to hear this, Cher. What a deep and rough scar to carry. I had a friend take his own life. He had been next to me on the offensive line in high school football, and took his own life a couple of years after graduation. It was hard enough in that instance to move past grief and into forgiveness on the other side. I can't imagine what it would be like for someone that close to you.

The pain and hurt will never be gone, the stain will always be there, but hopefully it becomes more porous, to let more and more of the light through.

Paint away, Cher. Let 'er rip.

It's all about jobs,jo... I mean, abortion, abortion, abortion.

You know, they could just outlaw premarital sex. No, I guess not, because that would put some blame on men. And we can't have that. As Adam first said, "It was that woman you gave me who did it!"

Thomas,
I am so sorry that you have lost a sibling. There are no words, no matter what the circumstances. And you're right; it is a never-ending process.

RESPECT,
Cher
