The Music of Leonard Cohen

Music engages our spirit and often speaks words though lyrics and melody which most of us mere mortals could not capture. Today’s feature is Leonard Cohen‘s song, “Dance Me To The End Of Love.” His throaty, raw sound only makes this song more poignant. Indulge me, if you will. This is one of my favorite love songs. Leonard Cohen is the master of subtle persuasion, reaching into the heart and withdrawing sensual and fervent emotion.

Cher, you never cease to amaze I have loved Leonard Cohen all my life. Do you realize that there are vast numbers of people of all ages that do not know who he is
sad but true. One of my favorites by him is ” Bird On A Wire”

Sandman,
Isn’t he just a marvel? It is hard to believe that he has a sort of cult following, but it’s true. He may be the best kept secret in music. Listen to him on a Bose. Divine! You’ve made my day. Thanks so much for the retweet!

Sandman,
I just put “Bird on a Wire” on our video page. This one’s for you! Does it get better than this?

I’ve tried to get into Leonard Cohen several times in the past. He has an unusual style and vibe. He’s always seemed like the kind of underground artist that it is cool to be “into”.
But I find him like watermelon. It looks good. I want to like it. It seems like it would be delicious. But when I taste, I’m usually either disappointed or bored.
I’ll give him another shot.

Carpetbagger,
We all have different tastes in music. I tend to lean toward the Blues. If you like Blues, listen to the song Sandman requested on our video page. For some, Leonard Cohen may be an acquired taste, but I ‘fell in love with him’ the first time I heard him.

Cher, you just made me wish I met you before Rich. Leonard Cohen is the most signifigant singer, song writer, and poet of our time. In Europe he is recognized as such, here he is slowly being recognized. I do like “Dance me to the End of Love” best. I have never Waltzed but everytime I hear that song I am Waltzing in my head. I have listened to him since 1971 and been disapointed by one album, “Dear Heather”, though he does a magnificant rendition of “The Tennesee Waltz”.
How about John Mayal’s “The Sensative Kind”?
