The Edwards: Sex, Lies and Sham
Several months ago I wrote a post in which I stated, “Will someone with morals please stand up? Not you, John Edwards, at least not yet.” By now we know that the rumors bore truth and Rielle Hunter bore a child who may or may not belong to John Edwards. I cannot understand how Elizabeth could write a book on this husband and his tawdry liaison. What he deserves is a boot where the sun don’t shine.
It is a tragedy that Elizabeth is dying. Did she write this book so her children would have financial stability after cancer and a broken heart have claimed her? It seems to me that the Edwards fall into the category of the rich so that can’t be the reason. Her book of Resilience may have been a catharsis, but it leaves a looming problem.
If I would have wanted anything to come out of a book by Elizabeth Edwards, it would have been an acknowledgement that she conned some into believing that her husband, who was running for president, was a decent man. It was Elizabeth, the mother who went through a terrible loss when their son was killed in an accident. It was Elizabeth who had an anniversary dinner at Wendy’s and who stood by her man on the campaign trail. It was Elizabeth who gave John Edwards a credibility factor he would not otherwise have had. And people donated to his campaign while Elizabeth knew he was a fraud. That sickens me as much as the plight of Elizabeth Edwards. It was lies, just an abundance of lies. It was a sham.
In the background, not a word is heard from Rielle Hunter. Soap opera buffs would be waiting to see whether she is just biding her time until it would be “appropriate” to be with John the con. Sort of reminds me of Prince Charles and Camilla. No matter how it turns out, there are no happy endings for this family.
I will not buy the book, even if some of the proceeds go to charity. I have seen quite enough of John Edwards. My sadness is for the children and for Elizabeth who still seeks peace of heart and mind.

Who knows how much Elizabeth knew. The press seemed to know, however, and they largely didn’t cover the story.
Good blog. I do agree. Why women like her insist on “standing by their men” is something that I will never understand. It’s obvious that John’s career is over and in a few short weeks everyone will forget.
This is the man that wanted to be our next president. Is there no shame, no sense of decency and, for heaven’s sake, most of all concience?
Drama Queen,
The entire story is one I would like to forget. Being the salacious public that we are, I’m afraid this story will run for a long time.
Harrison,
Edwards told Elizabeth about the affair “days after” he announcened his presidential bid in December of 2006. The National Enquirer broke the story in October of 2007. She continued to campaign for him knowing he was a fraud and not the ‘decent’ man he purported himself as being. She was like a jockey who rode the wrong horse. People bet on him, in large part, because of her. Those who donated to his campaign may have done other things with their money had they known the truth. The media knew and confirmed the story. I saw several articles about it, but I believe the media may have cut some slack due to her battle with cancer.
Shows how much I follow the Edwards’. I guess she’s as bad as Hillary.
Harrison,
The lines between Hillary and Elizabeth can be appropriately drawn. Maybe it is the lure of power and the White House, no matter how dire the circumstances. Like Drama Queen, I cannot fathom the “stand by your man” mentality. Once trust is broken to that extent, it can never be repaired. Even the Bible condones divorce on grounds of adultery.
