Say It Aint So, Barack
Yesterday the House of Representatives passed a bill that will provide $96 billion in funding for the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. These funds will be required to continue the wars through September, a mere four months from now. In an ironic twist of fate, a bloc of fifty-one Democrats voted against the bill, while virtually all Republicans supported it. This Obama-sponsored funding bill is disturbing for a number of reasons.
First of all, the bill contains additional funds to support an increase of 21,000 troops in Afghanistan. Similar to George Bush’s “surge” in Iraq, it further deepens America’s open-ended military commitment in Afghanistan, without setting forth a clear strategy on how the war will be won. Rather than shifting the responsibility of combating terrorism to the regional nations most effected, the surge in U.S. troops does nothing but escalate America’s involvement.
Secondly, the bill contains funding for a continued, major military presence in Iraq. Although Mr. Obama made campaign promises to significantly reduce troop levels in Iraq, the conflict rages on with very little indication that American forces will be drawn down any time soon. After eight years and a trillion dollars of expense, the situation is unchanged; no exit strategy, no deadlines, and no end in sight.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, is the question of how much long term funding will be required to support Pakistan’s increasingly violent and costly war against the Taliban in the Northern Provinces. After backing off on his promise to end the war in Iraq, and after supporting a Bush-like surge of troops in Afghanistan, how long will it be before President Obama opens up a new military campaign for U.S. troops in Pakistan?
For many Americans the election of Barack Obama signaled a beginning of the end of American military involvement in the Arab world. Unfortunately, the new administration has not only carried forward with the aggressive militarism of the Bush Era, but has actually escalated it to new levels. At this point, both the Obama Administration and Congress must carefully re-assess whether or not we want to continue to expend American treasure and American lives on a distant battlefield. Ultimately, the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq regions will have to find their own destiny, and there is no way America will ever change the landscape for long.

Cherlock, do you think we can get them to come out to the driveway, if we drive up and blow the horn on the minivan ?
probably not, as they are so damn stupid that they’ve forgotten who they really WORK FOR. Dumb as doorknobs elected officials need a wake up call.
why not organize a helluva minivan, and momtranvan convoy and circle the wagons around the capital one friday mornin. that would prevent any business from getting done. it would probably make the news in all 50 states in addition to many foreign countries.
we could invite the first mama Michelle to join us in their brand new Ford Box oops I meant Ford whatever it’s called,, and then we’d probably get them to listen.
see War is Wrong, and we all hate it when our kids fight, so if we as adults let these kids keep spending our money on their fights, pretty soon we won’t be able to send them to their respective Time Out Naughty Chairs.
hey that’s a thought, why not send them each a Naughty Chair and direct them to sit in them.
obviously they’ve forgotten that this is not their BLOODY money they are tossing up in the air; and maybe we need to take it out of their allowances when they do stuff like this.
Hmmmm that’s another thought…
Whadya think Cherlock ? can we ground them for the weekend, or maybe take away their lobbyists for the next two weeks ?

Why is this a surprise? Obama is running it like a Republican would. Liberals always screw over their base. Unions taking it with the Big 3 debacle. Blacks take it every election because Democrats know those people won’t vote Republican. Democrats (and Repiblicans) know that certain members of their base will not vote for the other party so they don’t really have to”earn” their vote. The movie Bullworth with Warren Beatty covered this subject very well.
Hillary would have done the same thing…

Re,
You have some great ideas there, especially the one about taking away their lobbyists. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (and soon to be Pakistan) are not justifiable because these regions, half way around the world, do not pose a threat to America; they never did. Bush got us into this mess based on bogus intelligence and a cowboy mentality that told him to get even with someone for 911. Obama should do what he said he would do; get us the hell out!

Yea letting Afghanistan continue as a lawless state with al Qaeda in it posed no threat to the US. Likewise, Pakistan getting invaded by Islamic terrorists trying to seize their nukes poses no threat to the U.S. nor does the fact that India, also with nuke, is next door and could become destabilized if Pakistan falls.
Aside from that… no threats to the U.S.
And there was a vote in the Senate… many Democrats voted “yes” and only 1 or 2 bothered to read the intel they were offered beforehand.

Cherlock, Kissinger had lunch with Obama before he was sworn in, which indicates that he was given his marching orders from the TLC. we all remember his meeting with the bilderburgs last summer during the race.
why are we suprised that he’s in the middle of the heroin trade now ?
he signed on for the job, now he has to do it. so who does he screw, US or the TLC.. you and I both know the answer.
he put his head in the lions mouth, and now we all have to watch the drug war go into a new phase. I’m just wondering how they are gonna control all these white kids coming home from iraq addicted to that gov’t shit. now there’s the coming problem. all I can say is remember post vietnam.
hedgemonics bought all our asses, when they went to afghanistan.. ain’t no doubt baby.
