In This Corner: Rooting For Caroline Kennedy!
All right, so she does not have the so-called experience some may see in other candidates for the New York Senate seat, but that may be why she is exactly the right choice. Caroline Kennedy has intellect, youthful verve, is deeply philosophical and has a compassionate dedication to this country. Am I reminiscing about the Camelot years? Sure, that may be a small part of the equation. More to the point, I do not believe she would ever be a sell-out like, oh say a governor named Blagojevich. Character is a key issue and this woman has it.
An erudite woman, Caroline Kennedy authored several books about our Constitution. No small feat. The Senate has a wrenching need for intellect and character. Caroline has both. She should not be disregarded because her name is Kennedy. Just ask Evan Bayh and Bob Casey Jr. There is a history of dynasties in this country so to dismiss her for “playing on her name” would be disingenuous.
Hillary Clinton has left big footprints to fill, but this little and mighty woman may just be able to do that. We need her youth, freshness and ideals which have yet to be smudged by the tawdry. And there is a good chance she could win that seat through a vote when the time comes. She is not a person to be underestimated. My hope is that the Governor of New York will give Caroline Kennedy this opportunity to serve our country.

Dear Cherlock,
I agree that she should be crowned Senator. This little rich girl who has always been given everything, as part of the Kennedy dynasty, should not be forced to earn the senate seat. It is demeaning to make her have to go into a grubby little senate race like Hillary had to. Caroline must be given the seat simply because she is from royalty. It is only respectful.
Dear John,
Well, this seat will be “given” to someone, why not Caroline? Let’s see, we had George Bush one and two and let’s not forget Jeb, the Rockefellers, the Sununus, and the Doles, Bob and Elizabeth. Face it; we have dynasties. Perhaps the dinner-time conversations offer more than on-the-job experience.
If selected she will have a chance to prove herself worthy. If not, she will be voted out. Doesn’t seem like that much of a risk to me. In the interim, her mettle will be tested. She is up to it.
And, while she is wealthy, she has been an activist for many causes. To be sure, one needs a certain amount of wealth in order to hold public office. That has been the case until Obama hit the Internet and drew in tons of funds. Smart move.
Caroline has some political capital. It would serve her well in wanting to uphold a beloved (by most) family name.
Dear Cherlock,
I agree that we should all honor the dynasties of our political scene. Maybe one day we will end like Hollywood where talent is totally irrelevant and the crown of “movie star” passes down the family lineage. Next we ought to insist the NBA does the same. Why shouldn’t Michael Jordan’s son be an NBA star also? If talent doesn’t matter to Hollywoood and Politics why should the NBA be such sticklers?
Dear John,
Does it matter to you that she might make a positive difference and become part of America’s better future?
Dear Cherlock,
Absolutely! I loved the whole “Camelot” idea. It was so much fun let’s do it again! I can easily see how a junior senator can rejuvinate the whole world with the power of her ideas…whatever they are….and I love the idea of “positive difference” and “better future” too. I mean who could be against that? How does she stand on motherhood and apple pie though?
Dear John,
Given the fact that she is in-play for the Senate seat for one of the most liberal places in America, I would say that she is in-step with the tide of the majority voters of the state of New York. The entire country is moving slowly upward in motion and trending downward toward youth. Since we have passed off a great many problems to them, I would say they need an opportunity to clean up the mess their elders have so selfishly left them. Caroline has that youth and is in touch with where that generation should now begin this long and tedious process. I mean, really, Hillary had been a First Lady. Did that give her better credentials than Caroline Kennedy? She didn’t bake cookies. I don’t know whether Caroline bakes apple pies.
Dear Cherlock,
I did not agree with Hilary’s agenda but I did admire the fact she was willing to actually run for the office. Caroline could also have run but in the past always said she “wasn’t interested” in politics. Now she wants the office just handed to her like she is the princess. My guess is that she would still be “not interested”…. if she had to actually earn the senate seat.
Dear John,
Perhaps Caroline just needed a bit of encouragement. She was on Obama’s team for the selection of his VP. She must have done well. I am certainly happy with the choice of Biden. Obama would not have given her such an important role if he did not feel she was up to the task.
No one will “earn” that Senate seat at this time. Someone will be appointed. Let it be Caroline.
